The European Innovation Festival beggins at Barcelona

The European Innovation Festival (IF) will held from 22th of October until 22th of November in Barcelona. That will be the first of the six events that will be held in several European cities until 2011, and will fill the Catalan capital of a program of activities, exhibitions, workshops and conferences to "imply" to citizens, businesses and public entities for a month. According to BCD, the challenge of the festival will be "stimulate creativity, innovation and attracting talent" to show that these aspects give answers to the current needs of society, "emphasizing the role of design as a driver of innovation". IF also coincide with the BCN Design Week 2009, which this year celebrates its fourth edition and will present sessions about the challenges of this new European initiative. The Catalan capital will start things off from October 22 to November 22 by hosting the Innovation Festival Barcelona (IF Barcelona), organised by BCD. This is the first of six such events that will take place in various European cities up to 2011. As the project continues, Milan (Italy), Lisbon (Portugal), Tallinn (Estonia), Vilnius (Lithuania) and Kortrijk (Belgium) will take over from Barcelona, promoting their own international profiles as creative and innovative cities. The beginning of this initiative at European level coincides with the celebration in 2009 of the European Year of Creativity and Innovation, which is "an excellent framework" to celebrate the festivals, according to BCD.
